The house is the mirror of the soul

The house is the mirror of the soul

You've heard this "saying" over and over again, right? If you need help reflecting your state of mind in interior design, then get to know this ancient technique.

The way you decorate your home is undoubtedly one of the elements that most reflects your state of mind and also your way of living life. Some choose to maintain complementary color schemes and those who bet on the organization of spaces.

Some people choose to combine the two, ensuring the greatest possible harmony in the space in which they live. The truth is that the house is the mirror of the soul and there is an ancient art that helps to bring more peace and harmony to a home.

Feng Shui: the art of well-being at home

Feng Shui is a Chinese art with thousands of years. Its literal translation means "wind" and "water", which makes one realize its direct relationship with nature. This technique aims to live in absolute harmony with the Earth because only by doing so it is possible to attract all of its benefits.

Peace, well-being, and prosperity are 3 of the main advantages of Feng Shui, a highly adopted art in interior design. Most people try to feel "at home" when they enter their own house, but this is a feeling few people can achieve.

That is why Feng Shui is one of the most effective alternatives when it comes to reflecting one's soul in the way a house is decorated. The perfect balance between all the decorative elements is what is sought, and achieved, through this art.

This Chinese technique establishes some general principles to make (your) home the mirror of your soul, but this does not mean that you should ignore your taste— only by referring to your preferences can you achieve the desired balance of elements. The general principles of Feng Shui are spread throughout the decorative elements and rooms of the house.

Doors

Doors are one of the most important elements of Feng Shui. They should be wide enough to invite people in and placed at such an angle as to allow free movement (of people and energy, of course).

Furniture

The sofas should be placed facing the front door, as they are meant to welcome and receive. Besides, it is also advised that the architecture of the house is respected, which means that you should not place square furniture on a corner. Instead, opt for triangular furniture, so that all spaces are used.

Living room(s)

The decoration of a living room, or other rooms of the house, should obey a pattern of light colors, ideally in tones of "water blue". Space must be decorated with natural elements, such as straw or wood, to achieve the desired balance.

An object marking the center of the room, such as a lamp, a chandelier or even a carpet, must also be included.

Kitchen and dining room

The principles of Feng Shui are adapted to one's own house, so you don't need to have all the divisions mentioned in this article. In any case, if you have a dining room, you should balance its decoration with that of the kitchen.

The predominant color should be yellow since in Chinese philosophy it means “joy”—that should be present in spaces of (re)union. Curiously, Chinese art also advises to include a watch in the kitchen, so that mealtimes are always respected.

Bedroom

Just as the house is the mirror of the soul, the bedroom is the mirror of the one(s) who sleep there. For this reason, you should opt for light, peaceful colors with which you can identify. Chinese art also advises avoiding red in the bedroom, because it means everything but moments of rest.

Children's room

In this case, light colors and pastel shades are recommended, especially “roses" (which represent relations) and “greens” (which invoke a sense of cleanliness to space).
