5 original tips for organizing the dining table

Are you going to host people at home and don't know how to organize the meal table? With the tips we give you here, you will never worry about it again.

Who doesn't want to welcome a group of friends or family at home? It was thinking about you that we gathered 5 original tips to organize the meal table at home.

1. The decoration style

Before thinking about what you will put on the table and the colors you are going to use, it is essential that you know, first, what kind of meal you will organize: lunch or dinner, in a formal or informal environment.

That essential information will influence the way you organize your meal table. Usually, if you receive people in a more sophisticated environment, the chosen decoration and dishware must be up to the occasion.

It is advisable to opt for porcelain objects, crystal glasses, or hard glass, among other better quality notes in these cases. If, on the other hand, we are talking about an informal meal, these are not aspects that should concern you, since it is enough to put the dishware you use daily on the table. Before everything, get inspired by the various existing styles, such as the Scandinavian style and the industrial one.

2. The table centerpiece

Often forgotten in informal meals, the centerpiece can give much more life and color to any meal table. It's a detail that can sometimes seem obvious, but that is very original and often praised.

Placing a centerpiece on the dining table is an added value, not only in terms of the decoration but also because it divides the space and allows color contrasts that would not exist without its placement.

One of the centerpiece's advantages is its versatility since you can either choose to make one with your hands, using flowers of the epoch. Buy one already made or, then place small pots of plants/flowers that stand out and, at the same time, complement the existing decoration. Lanterns and candles are elements that can also make all the difference.

3.The arrangement of cutlery and plates

In this case, everything depends on whether we are talking about a formal or informal meal. In the first case, you'll need more cutlery and plates than in the second, which still depends on how many dishes you'll serve.

It is also essential that you decide in advance if you are going to serve starters and if you want to distribute bread for each of the places since this requires the placement of smaller plates for the respective effects.

Regardless of the formality (or not) of the occasion, there are essential watering that you must maintain, like placing the knives (and spoons) on the right side of the plate. Forks will need to be on the left side, both with the ends facing inwards, to the main course. If you serve dessert, you need to arrange the respective cutlery at the plate's top.

4. The glasses

What kind of drinks will you serve? Besides water and juices, will you do wine? Will there be more than one, or will you do different types of wine?

These are questions you have to ask yourself before you start organizing your meal table. Anyway, you should always put a glass of water on the right top of the main plate to which you should follow, diagonally (from left to right) the glasses for the different wines.

5. The napkins

It's time to choose the napkins you are going to put on the table. If we are talking about a more formal moment, you should select cloth napkins, in fabrics like linen.

However, if the occasion is informal, stick to the white paper napkins or in a different color(s), depending on what you have chosen for the table's decoration. Either way, place them on each of the plates.

If you will welcome your guests in the living room and look for a new decoration for the room, get to know some ways of organizing paintings and photos in the living room that will inspire you to continue organizing your meal table.

Now, keep giving wings to your imagination and realize, as much as possible, what kind of event you will be hosting at home. From there, you will be able to create the decoration you are looking for and know what variety of dishware to use.

Of course, you don't need to follow these tips exclusively because there's a lot more you can do. Depending on the occasion, you can add other types of elements, such as towels, flowers, bowls, among other decorative objects that will bring more life to the room.
