5 ideas that make a difference in home decor

Interior design can seem complicated, but not with these 5 ideas that will completely change the way you decorate your home.

Sometimes radical changes are not necessary to completely change the decoration of a house—and not even a big-budget, quite the contrary. There are small changes that you can implement overnight and that will give a very special touch to any room.

If you have looked at your living room several times and don't know what to do with it, don't worry, because we have put together the 5 best changes you can make right now to renew the look of your favourite room.

1. Decorate a wall with the world map

We’re pretty sure you have a rolled-up world map stored at some corner of your house, which never had many purposes over time. Well, this is the ideal opportunity to dust it off and use it in a very original way.

You can place the world map in a portion of a wall, as you would do in a kitchen, or you can choose to get several copies and line an entire wall with all the countries and continents of the world.

This is a perfect idea especially for travel lovers, who easily identify with a decoration like this, and the truth is that there are several ways for a world map to cover a wall.

You can do it without rules and simply glue the world maps on top of each other, or you can arrange the map on a larger scale, allowing you to identify all the elements of the globe. By doing this, you can even mark the countries/city you have already visited.

2. The lamps don't all have to be the same

When we think of lamps, whether standing ones or table lamps, it is impossible not to think of an object that is always very similar regardless of the object itself. There is a part of the lamp that serves as a support for the light bulb and, therefore, the lampshade, and little else.

It is certain that, nowadays, several original options bet on styling, and end up giving a different decorative touch to at least one of the parts that build the lamp (be it the support or the top part). But it is also true that these accessories are usually more expensive.

However, and as we bet that the lamps you have at home belong to the most "conventional" family otherwise you wouldn't be reading this article, we want to give you a customization tip that will grant more originality to your lighting objects.

Why don't you, for example, put a textured paper around the foot of the lamp? You can instead put raffia around that support or buy a lampshade of different colors and shapes. It all depends on your creativity and the elements that already decorate your space.

3. Paint the walls, door frames and/or the walls’ baseboards

Depending on the house you live in, each of the options mentioned above is valid (and even all of them, if you wish). Painting the interior of a house is one of the most considered, easiest and fastest ideas to do.

Although painting the walls may seem obvious, the truth is that not everyone uses it to make a change in the decoration of the house. That’s why it's important to remember that, and also to say that you can do the same with the door frames and the walls’ baseboards (if you have them).

Try painting the walls with a light grey and the frames/baseboards in white, for example. Try to visualize the change and see if you identify with it before applying any paint.

4. Use wallpaper

Using wallpaper is one of the cheapest and easiest decoration ideas to apply overnight, and it allows different decorations—you can cover all the walls of a room or choose to put the paper on one wall only.

This is a change implemented in rooms like the bedroom, where it is usual to see a different (and irreverent) wallpaper placed behind the bedside.

This is an idea that you can apply anywhere and there are a lot of possibilities. You can choose paper with geometric shapes and neutral colors, which merge with space or choose monochromatic options, which add something to the decoration you already have..

5. Hang shelves

This is an idea you can apply in any division. You can put shelves on the walls of the room to put books and/or decorative objects on, just as you can in the bedroom or office.

Although valid, these are not completely original ideas. That is why we challenge you to put shelves, for example, in the kitchen, so that you can place and organize the spices you use for cooking. The same applies to other kitchen utensils that you prefer to have insight rather than stored in a drawer.
