Monochrome spaces: yes or no?

Monochrome spaces: yes or no?

It is not that common to see monochrome spaces nowadays, but that doesn’t mean that you should not adopt them. It all depends on your taste and the decoration itself.

Although there are several interior design options for monochrome spaces, the truth is that everything depends on your taste. Your home, or the office where you work, is the mirror of your personality and usually is decorated according to your preferences.

That's why you can't neglect this very important component, because interior decoration depends a lot on personal taste. However much you follow the trends of the year and the season, if you don't identify yourself with those suggestions, you will hardly apply them in your own space.

Even so, you may be inspired by the suggestions for monochrome spaces that we mention below. But remember: everything can (and should) be adaptable to your taste and the space that will receive this decoration.

Choose a color you can identify with

Usually, there is (always) a color that you like best or identify with the most. Retain this color and apply it throughout the house and/or space to decorate, in different shades.

This is the "rule" of monochrome, which emphasizes the various shades of color, allowing them to cohabit in harmony. It is advisable, despite everything, to choose a decorative element in another color (such as a chair, cushions or even a sofa), so that the decoration of the space turns out even better.

Bet on whites

White is one of the most unanimous colors since it is the preference of many people and therefore a strong bet on interior decoration. One of its advantages is the versatility it presents when compared to other colors.

By this, we mean that it is simpler to combine opposite colors with white. Thus, you can paint the walls white, choose a sofa in the same color and even a carpet of the same tone and you still will have no difficulty in finding elements of another color that combine well with the rest of the decoration.

The brown and/or wood tones are two of those that best match the white, which brings luminosity and harmony to any space.

Use the same color on walls and furniture

At first glance, it may seem like this is an idea that won't work, but think again. Choose a blue tone, or even a green one, and apply it in different intensities to all the elements of a room.

Apply a darker shade to a wall, for example, and lean a piece of furniture against it in a lighter shade (referring to the same color)—or even some shelves to organize books or decorative objects.

Use the same material

When we talk about monochrome spaces, we are not just referring to the decoration of space in the same color, because you can use the same material to cover an entire room.

One of the most famous materials in this context is undoubtedly wood, which you can apply to the walls, ceiling, and floor of a room. If it is elegance you are looking for, this is a great monochrome alternative.

Black and white

The combination of black and white is undoubtedly one of the most timeless. Those who speak of black also speak of grey tones (darker or lighter) that complement each other equally well with white.

The truth is that, when we talk about monochrome spaces, we must, necessarily, talk about "black on white". Darker walls, lighter furniture and a dégradé that appeals to good taste.
